Course Capsule: Rice in perspective, climatic environment of rice production, Rice growing soils, chemical changes in submerged soils, morphology and the growth and development, photosynthesis and respiration, plant characters in relation to yield ability, Physiological analysis of rice yield, varietal development of rice, water use and management of rice, postproduction technology, seed production of rice, modern rice production technologies and world food supply.

Course ILOs:

  • At the end of the course students able to:
  • Familiarize with the climatic environment, soils, and the conditions in which rice grow
  • Describe the morphology, growth and the development of rice plant
  • Understand the yield physiology of rice
  • Discuss the water use and management and the mineral nutrition of rice
  • Design the future breeding objective of Sri Lanka
  • Familiar rice with the seed production and postproduction technology and modern rice production technology of world
