Local Entrants - Candidate must have obtained at least “S” Grade passes for three subjects in one sitting from any of the following combinations at the G.C.E. [Advanced Level] examination.
- Chemistry, Physics, and Biology
- Chemistry, Physics or Mathematics, Biology or Agricultural Science
- Chemistry, Biology, Agricultural Science or Mathematics




International Entrants - Candidates with impressive results of an examination deemed equivalent to G.C.E. [Advanced Level] examination of Sri Lanka are eligible to apply for admission to the faculty through University Grants Commission of Sri Lanka. [visit http://www.ugc.ac.lk ] for more information.

Special Entrants-Candidates who followed full time two (02) year diploma course in Agriculture offered by the government or recognized private institution (minimum total credits 60) or equivalent qualifications together with following qualifications are eligible to apply through the special entrance
Minimum of three (03) passes for Chemistry, Physics or Agriculture and Biology in one sitting at the G.C.E. (Advanced Level) examination.
Minimum of five (05) years research, teaching or field experience in the field of agriculture at the government or recognised private sector organization after awarding the diploma certificate.
- Age below 40 years as at the closing date of the applications
Good performance at the written examination and the interview.
The Head of institution's consent to grant scholarships/study leave for a period of 04 years for the selected persons to follow the programme on full-time basis

The courses will be commenced on Januaary 2020 for GCE Advanced Level (2018) students. However, the exact date will be decided after receiving the registered students’ list from the UGC. The course will be commenced as soon as the list is received by the university.


A four-year degree (eight academic semesters) programme with industrial internships is offered in eight specializations.


If your permanent residence is more than 40 kilometers away from Rajarata University, you are eligible for the hostel facilities.

The university health service provides medical care to the university community. The health center, opens for services from 12 noon to 2.00 PM on every Wednesday. A doctor and a nurse from the Mihintale divisional hospital have appointed for medical examinations and treatments.The other services provided by the health center are, preventive health services, health education, and environmental health, which include the monitoring of water and food supplies to the university.


During the orientation period, students are taught English language assigning them to different groups. After the orientation programme, English language is taught during the degree programmes for further improvement. If students can improve their English language proficiency before entering the University, it would be an added advantage for their academic works; because, all the academic programmes are conducted in English medium.


In order to improve the quality of the degree programmes, the faculty has established all the required facilities to enhance the quality of the degree programmes which can be accessed by all the students in the faculty.
Well-equipped library is available in the faculty with online access for e-books, scientific journals and other audio books in addition to the lending section of the books and journals. A separate referencing section with reading facilities is available.
Computer lab is equipped with the internet facilities, statistical packages and ther required software packages like GIS for the specific course units to cater the need of students. Wi-fi internet facilities are installed around the faculty and hostel premises for the easy access of the students.
A separate language lab is established to improve the English language of the students.
Indoor and outdoor sports facilities are available for you. These sport facilities include basketball, cricket, football, hockey, netball, rugby, tennis, volleyball courts, and a ground for athletics. The playground is on faculty closes to the hostels. More for details read Student Handbook


Students are allocated for the specific mentor from the academic staffs to discuss and get the advices for the problem faced during university life. Academic staffs are well equipped with the mentoring process to improve and help students to focus on their career goals and targets providing necessary information and directions. Sperate panel of student counsellors are available to help the students to solve their issues in confidential manner and if any student need special attention for their problems, necessary guidance and directions will be provided to make success their academic and career success. All the welfare facilities are provided by the faculty in collaboration with the Welfare Department of the University. Students are facilitated to strengthen their physical health and to enhance the special skills on sports activities in connection with Physical Education Department. Students who are with prior achievements in sports activities will be given special attention to improve their skills and achievements further in university level. Furthermore, students will get an opportunity to engage in diverse range of activities with the support of academic staffs. During the academic programmes, caeer guidance workshops and seminars are organized to improve their soft skills and hard skills. Moreover, field visits and industry visits are organized in connection with the curriculum to expose students for global knowledge and practices. More for details read Student Handbook
