Rice production that reduces harm to the environment and consumers' health while giving satisfactory yields are known as sustainable rice production (SRP) techniques. Organic rice farming, traditional rice cultivation and system of rice intensification (SRI) which are practiced in Sri Lanka are examples for such techniques. These techniques are age-old techniques which have been revamped at present in search of solutions for the environmental and human health threats.

Farmers in different regions in Sri Lanka are undergoing adoption and adaptations of these eco- friendly rice farming techniques with their own combinations. Some farmers are better practitioners of these techniques while some are getting rid of them due to different reasons. Various government, non-governmental and private organizations are involving in research and dissemination of environmental-friendly rice farming techniques and some implementation efforts in Sri Lanka at present.

An up-to-date and organized data base of these organizations is underprovided in Sri Lanka. Recognizing the timely need of such an data base, Department of Agricultural Systems of RUSL and OXFAM collaboratively worked and prepared a database of organizations (Click here to go to the database) which are working on environmental friendly rice farming and located in a Google Map,
